Favorite Podcasts: News
Every morning I get to work, turn on my computer, check my email, and download the day’s podcasts. I used to listen to music, but when that got redundant, I wandered off to the internet for a solution and discovered daily news podcasts! While cleaning, reviewing, and editing code, i listen to the news and sip on my coffee.
Here is my morning news routine in my daily listening order:
- Rachel Maddow Show Audio
- Funny and super liberal. Listening to this first jump starts my day, especially when i start laughing out loud by myself with my big headphones on. Its only audio though, so sometimes, i have to download the video when i get home to see what she’s talking about.
- KUT Morning Newspod
- Local Austin news. It never ceases to amaze me what kinds of things are happening here.
- NPR: 7pm ET News Summary
- five minute news summary from the day before.
- NPR: 7am ET News Summary
- five minute news summary since the 7pm summary.
- BBC World Service – GlobalNews
- An amazing listen. Its more than just news, its a little documentary.
- “The best stories, interviews and on the spot reporting from around the world including highlights from Newshour, The World Today and World Briefing. Up to 30 minutes Compiled twice a day from the 24 hour News coverage from the BBC World Service.”
- NPR: Story of the Day
- “Funny, moving, exceptional, or just offbeat — the NPR story people will be talking about tomorrow. The best of Morning Edition, All Things Considered and other award-winning NPR programs.”
- NPR: Fresh Air
- “Fresh Air from WHYY, the Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues, is one of public radio’s most popular programs. Hosted by Terry Gross, the show features intimate conversations with today’s biggest luminaries.”
Then, there are the weekly gems that I sprinkle throughout the day after lunch throughout the week:
- NPR: Technology
- “From NPR: perspectives on digital culture, research news, the tech industry and more. The best of Morning Edition, All Things Considered and other award-winning NPR programs.”
- NPR: StoryCorps
- “At recording booths across America, everyday people interview one another about their lives. StoryCorps creator Dave Isay showcases these first-person stories in this weekly podcast.”
- NPR: Environment
- “Environmental science and reporting on issues from Morning Edition, All Things Considered and other award-winning NPR programs.”
- NPR: Talk of the Nation
- “Journalist Neal Conan leads a productive exchange of ideas and opinions on the issues that dominate the news landscape. From politics and public service to education, religion, music and healthcare, Talk of the Nation offers call-in listeners the opportunity to join enlightening discussions with decision-makers, authors, academicians and artists from around the world.”
